More than 400 pre-school aged children and their parents turned out on a rainy Saturday for the Annual Harvey County KidFest. The weather didn't seem to dampen the spirit of the event which hosted a record-breaking 400+ children and their families on March 31.

The gymnasium and cafeteria at Sunset Elementary was the site of dozens of informational and interactive booths targeted at delivering information to families on the many developmental and health services available for children in Harvey County.

RaileRobotics headed for national competition in Atlanta

The Newton RaileRobotics team scored a regional triple crown in Kansas City this past weekend, claiming their third regional victory in as many years.

The Railer team placed first overall and first in the regional tournament. The team also received the 3-D Animation Award for their 30-second animation entry and the Motorola Quality Award for overall design, workmanship and aesthetics.

The victory means a trip to Atlanta April 12-14, to compete in the National Robotics First competition. The team will spend the next three weeks attempting to raise the funds to make the trip to Atlanta.

The total cost of the trip to nationals will run about $15,000. The team hopes to raise about half of that amount by selling Papa John's coupons and holding fund raising events. Businesses and individuals who would like to contribute can contact Shawn Taylor: 316-284-6280, xt 2901.
