Walton Milo HarvestWalton Students Take Field Trip
Walton Rural Life students recently got to take a field trip...literally. With a milo field farmed by the Neal and Sheila Williams family of rural Walton within walking distance of the school, it was the perfect opportunity for the students from Staci Schill's 3rd grade and Kathy Murphy's 5th grade classes to learn about harvesting and other farming practices. Students got to watch as milo was combined and then transferred into a grain truck for delivery to the local grain elevator. In addition to several farm implements, the students got a close-up look at the "big wheels" sprayer and other equipment used by Mid-Kansas Coop. Students also watched as wheat was planted in another portion of the field.

SFMS CelebrationSanta Fe Students Celebrate Achievement
Santa Fe students received news from principal Victoria Adame recently that was worthy of celebrating—and celebrate they did! Adame delivered the good news that the school had achieved seven state Standards of Excellence on school assessments conducted last spring, during an all school assembly last Friday. The student body and teachers celebrated the outstanding achievement with an ice cream party on the lawn and a special presentation by the undefeated Bethel College football team. The team revved the students up with their traditional pre-game chant and their post-winning-game celebratory song, “Father Abraham.” The 2006-07 school year was a record-breaking year for the district for Standard of Excellence Awards, with 31 cumulatively earned by all schools district-wide.
