Bond Construction Updates

• Northridge Elementary - 6 Classroom addition of approximately 8,000 sq. ft.
• Chisholm Middle School - Addition of seven classrooms, workroom, locker rooms, gymnasium, concessions, weight room/wrestling room and parking – Approximately 31,000 sq ft. Existing entryway was also modified and the band/instrumental room was enlarged. Existing gymnasium was air conditioned. Changes were made to make this building a 7-8 grade center for the entire district.
• Santa Fe 5-6 Grade Center – The current Santa Fe Middle School will be converted to a 5-6 grade center. Six hardened classrooms with approximately 8,000 sq. ft. were added that will also serve as a storm shelter. The media center was expanded and the current technology lab will be converted to classroom space. New ceiling and windows were also added to Lindley Hall and the gymnasium was air conditioned.
• Educational Technology Center – Addition of 6,000 sq. ft. for new meeting rooms and training lab, work and storage space.
• Newton High School Vocational Programs – This includes several projects including:
  • Additions and remodeling to Brooks Trades Center that included adding classroom space, storage space and upgrading of heating and cooling systems.
  • Addition and remodeling of the Auto Technology Building – Added 5,400 sq. ft. of classroom and workroom space, remodeled shop area to add work bays, upgraded mechanical systems, added lifts and a new alignment equipment.
  • Built a new state of the art agriculture and woods technology building of approximately 50,000 sq. ft. Building includes paint booths for both programs, greenhouse for the agriculture program, laser technology lab, science classrooms, computer labs and large shop areas for large equipment repair and construction.
• Newton High School Academic Additions and Remodeling – Addition of a new media center and instructional area, entry, office and conference area and outdoor entry to Ravenscroft Gymnasium. Total additions will be approximately 24,000 sq. ft. The current office and media center will be remodeled into classrooms as will the former agriculture shop and classroom (approximately 13,000 sq. ft.). Air conditioning will be added to Ravenscroft Gymnasium and fire alarm systems will be upgraded throughout the building. Windows throughout the building will be replaced with energy efficient ones and skylights will be added.
• Cooper Early Education Center – Addition of 15,600 sq. ft. to add six classrooms, offices, conference areas and play space for early childhood programs. This addition along with the current building will house special education and at-risk pre-schools, Headstart, Parents as Teachers and other birth through pre-kindergarten programs.

Technology infrastructure in bond project buildings will be upgraded as funds permit and some new furniture and equipment will be purchased, including new furniture for the media center at Newton High School.

All projects should be completed by the start of the 2010-11 school year.

Northridge Elementary School

Project overview:
New classroom addition to reduce crowding at all elementary schools and to make all Newton elementary sites similar in size and enrollment.
