The adult education program, HCC and
KansasWorks moved into the Axtell Educational Center in August 2007. The
three programs -- only a set of stairs away from each other -- are finding
that their partnership greatly benefits teen and adult learners. For
instance, students seeking college enrollment may be referred to the GED
program to earn the high school diplomas they need first. Likewise, GED
instructors and HCC advisors work together to students prepare for college
classes.
Workforce Development Specialist Tucky
Allen, also located at Axtell, focuses on short-term training for the
unemployed or underemployed student. In-demand occupations for training
include manufacturing, welding, machinist, nursing, and alternative energy.
Grants plus funding from the Workforce Investment Act help students defray
some of the costs of taking that first step into a career.
Reaching your goals
The mission of Axtell Educational Center is to encourage students, high
school-aged and older, to complete their educational goals in a supportive
environment using a variety of educational strategies. While there are many
different programs at our center, we all have just one thing in mind:
Helping our learners succeed!
Free programs abound
If you are concerned about the cost of our programs—well, don't be.
Virtually all our programs are free of charge. Due to local, state, and
federal funding, we can provide great programs at no cost to you! The
Alternative High School, Adult High School Diploma, GED, and English as a
Second Language programs are all free of charge to qualified students. Check
out the details on the individual program pages to learn more.
