PURPOSE OF PROGRAM – Supplements children’s home experiences in a stimulating learning environment and provides continuing education in child development for parents and volunteers.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES – Children attending play school engage in art, music, play and story activities alone and in groups; exercise and play in the preschool’s playground and do other learning activities. These activities help the children learn about their abilities, relationships with others and the world of nature. Play school is staffed by co-directors and volunteer teachers from the Newton area. Parents bring their children or make arrangements for their transportation.

SCHEDULE OF SERVICE DELIVERY – Play School is open from the beginning of September until mid-May. One group of children comes Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the other group Wednesdays and Fridays. Classes run from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – Children must be from two and one-half to five years of age. First preference is given to families who cannot attend other preschools because of limited finances, one-parent families, and those with special needs not met elsewhere.

FEES - $15.00 - $40.00 per month per child, depending on income. No child will be excluded if this fee cannot be paid. No charge for parents participating regularly as teachers.
