PURPOSE OF PROGRAM – The Harvey County Special Education Cooperative provides comprehensive services to school age children who have specific handicapping conditions or special needs which interfere with their education.
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES –
Referral & Evaluation: Prior to a child being evaluated the parent or school personnel must initiate a referral. A part of the referral process is providing interventions in the child’s classroom. The parent must give written consent for evaluation and be informed of his/her rights. The referral consists of a written request for evaluation, intervention documentation and results of the most recent vision and hearing screening. The team determines the assessment areas including Health, Motor, Vision, Hearing, Social/Emotional, General Intelligence, Academic, Communication and Vocational Skills.
Areas of Exceptionality: The evaluation team determines the eligibility in the following areas: Autistic, Emotionally Disturbed, Hearing Impaired, Learning Disabled, Mental Retardation, Physically Impaired, Severe Multiple Disabilities, Speech and Language Impaired, Visually Impaired, Other Health Impaired, Gifted, Traumatic Brain Injury or Deaf/Blind.
Program Alternatives: Based on the Individual Education Plan (IEP) the placement committee determines the type and appropriate level of services that are needed such as special materials or equipment, staff consultation or directed instruction in a small group, in a resource room or in a self-contained classroom situation.
