DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES
STORYTIME SESSIONS – Fall and Winter Storytime sessions for children from 6 months to the age of five are offered weekly September thru December and January thru April for both public enrollment and for childcare providers in the area. Preschool Storytime is for children between the ages of 2 ½ and five. Toddler Time is for babies between the ages of 6 months and 2 ½ years. The Storytime sessions include storytelling, finger plays, songs, puppet shows, games, crafts and physical activities. Summer Toddler Time and Preschool Storytime sessions are held weekly during June and July. Enrollment is required for all Storytimes.
SUMMER READING PROGRAM – The reading program is provided for youth of all ages during June and July. SRP promotes the importance of reading by encouraging youth to achieve individual reading goals for which they will receive awards. Enrollment is required.
ACTIVITIES PROGRAM – The library provides activities programs during June and July including special presenters, puppet shows for all ages and activities for young adults. Check for special activities during school spring & holiday breaks.
RESOURCES – Check out the books, magazines, CDs, videos, DVDs, Internet access, computer programs, and online databases at the library. Access the library web site <www.newtonplks.org> from home, business or school which includes the library catalog, downloadable Audio books, music & more, one-on-one online tutoring in Engish and Spanish for Grades 4 – 12 via HomewordKansas and links to other resources. The Parent-Child Toy Library has educational toys and games to develop auditory, visual, and perceptual skills which are available for one week check-out to parents and teachers.
SCHEDULE OF SERVICE DELIVERY – The library is open Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Links to Newton Public Library resources, services and program information is published weekly in “The Newton Kansan” and on the library web site.
FEES – Free of charge. A parent or legal guardian must be present and provide ID with current address to apply for a free library card for minors under 18 years of age.
