The Sunshine Academy Child Care Program is a family oriented child care and education center. The Center will provide an atmosphere which encourages the development of each individual child: spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. This quality care center is licensed by the Kansas State Department of Health and Environment, and is administered by the Program Director. We have now opened our new center. This center has large spacious classrooms and age appropriate playground.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND GOALS OF OUR CENTER
GOALS: To take each child where he/she is and to guide him/her in continuing
development: socially, physically, emotionally, and intellectually through the
following activities:
Opportunities for social play through blocks, housekeeping, work bench,
sand and water table, and snack time.
Opportunities for sharing ideas, toys and equipment.
Encouragement in following simple directions.
Encouragement in learning to take care of own needs: putting on and taking off
jackets, zipping, buttoning, lacing, tying, fastening, and self help in the
bathroom.
Exposure to use of all colors and shapes.
Recognizing and printing his/her own name.
Reading readiness.
Introduction to time: days of the week, months of the year, calendar, and
seasons.
Science awareness: animal world, plant world, weather, five senses, magnets,
machines, transportation, measuring, and experiments.
Development of small muscle coordination through cutting, pasting, coloring,
clay, painting, puzzles, table games, drawing, and finger plays.
Development of large muscle coordination through climbing, running, jumping,
skipping, and swinging.
Development of listening skills and appreciation of literature through poetry,
stories, and drama.
Appreciation of the major holidays.
Experience in simple cooking and good nutrition.
Children will be helped to reach these goals through a flexible, yet secure, schedule of free play (inside and outside), planned group and individual activities.
Early childhood care and education should excite curiosity, stimulate creativity, expand intellectual and motor skills, create awareness, and help each child better understand himself and the world around him. This type of education happens everywhere, spontaneously and through planned activities.
